Desperately seeking streaming suggestions? Perhaps I can assuage your desperation.

Here are four shows—three series and one movie—Jim and I recently watched (one we’re still watching) and were riveted. You might be, too.

WANTED

It’s been a ridiculously long time since I’ve loved characters as much as I do WANTED’s Lola and Chelsea. This trailer is for the first season of the Australian series but there are three (so far) so prepare for some serious binging. It’s worth it!

Synopsis courtesy Wikipedia (which I think sums it up best without giving anything away): In 2016 Sydney two women, Lola and Chelsea, are waiting at a suburban bus stop before midnight. A car crashes in front of them, and two masked man arrive and shoot the driver dead. Lola struggles with the masked attacker and the gun goes off, killing him. The other man is unmasked and he takes them both hostage. They escape but are caught up in a larger criminal conspiracy, and go on the run across Australia in a vehicle filled with cash. They are chased by criminals and corrupt police and can only trust each other. Streaming exclusively on Netflix… unless you’re in Australia.

BODYGUARD

It takes a little while to get the hang of the actors’ accents but don’t let that deter you from this gripping thriller.

Synopsis courtesy Netflix: War veteran David Budd finds work as a police sergeant with London's Metropolitan Police Service, in the Royalty and Specialist Protection branch. He is assigned to protect the home secretary, the Rt. Hon. Julia Montague MP, a controversial and ambitious politician who is described as "the sociopath" by one of her aides, and who has plans to introduce invasive new surveillance powers for security forces. Finding himself increasingly at odds with Montague's policies and personality, and dealing with physical and psychological scars from his time serving in Afghanistan, volatile Budd is torn between his beliefs and his duty to protect. Streaming exclusively on Netflix.

DIRTY JOHN

No synopsis necessary as the trailer tells all you need to know—including how amazing Connie Britton is. This is the one we’re still watching, anxiously awaiting the last few episodes, which air Sunday nights on Bravo (but you can catch up via Xfinity, Amazon Prime, Itunes, and other services).

Warning: If you adore Eric Bana and don’t want to detest him, steer clear. I’m a fan of his, yet my stomach turns and churns every time his despicable character’s on screen here. Exclusive to Bravo.

MR. CHURCH

A delightful gem of a movie—set in 1965 and released in 2016—that can be a bit overly sentimental at times. Meh! Overly sentimental sometimes works for me.

Synopsis via IMDB: "Mr. Church" tells the story of a unique friendship that develops when a little girl and her dying mother retain the services of a talented cook—Henry Joseph Church. What begins as a six month arrangement instead spans into fifteen years and creates a family bond that lasts forever. Available on Netflix and other streaming services as well as DVD.
