Striped Jello

Since posting this photo, I've received several requests for the recipe for the striped Jello. Well, it's not my recipe; it's my mom's. So here, straight from the source — and in her own words — is the recipe for the striped Jello dessert my mom has been making for family functions ever since I was an itsy-bitsy girl:

Striped Jello

6 packs different colored Jello (minimum)

2 cans sweetened condensed milk (like Eagle brand)

Enough water to make Jello packs

Glass dish to display "stripes"

Mix Jello packs, one at a time, using 3/4 cup boiling water & 3/4 cup cold water for "clear" layers.

"Cream" layers: mix with /2 cup boiling water, 1/2 cup cold water, dissolving Jello thoroughly, then add 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk. Cool well before adding to display dish.

Alternate clear, then cream layers, chilling 'til firm each layer before adding next layer. Always cool hot/cold mixture well before adding sweetened condensed milk or the milk will curdle (UGLY!). (I've done it!).

ALWAYS let previous layer (I always start with a "clear" layer) set 'til firm before adding next layer and pour slowly and very carefully so you don't splash holes in previous layer. (I've done this, too!).

Chilling each layer adequately will take a minimum of two to three hours (making a striped Jello always means I start it two days before I want it to be done). It only SEEMS like it takes a hundred years!!!
