Wallaroo Hats: Fashion forward sun protection

Summer may be gone but the need for sun protection when outdoors certainly isn’t. Especially for fair-skinned folks like my husband.

Despite the inevitable sun damage he’ll incur when out and about, my husband — who not only has fair skin but hails from a family with a history of skin cancer — eschews wearing sun screen of any sort. “Too greasy,” he complains. Which drives me batty.

He had no complaints at all, though, when I suggested he try out the Outback Men’s Sun Protection Hat from Wallaroo Hat Company I received free for review. We both agreed that sun protection never looked more stylish.

The Outback Men’s Sun Protection Hat from Wallaroo is more than stylish, though. Features include:

  • UPF 50+ fabric that blocks 97.5% of ultraviolet rays, according to the Australian Radiation Protection Agency

  • 3” brim

  • Packable — Soft Taco Fold

  • Crown sizes — M/L (59cm) and L/XL (61 cm)

  • Internal drawstring to adjust fit

The string makes for easy fit adjustments.

So Jim happily donned the lightweight take on a classic fedora and headed into the sun for some late-season lawn mowing.

We both were quite pleased with how well the hat protected him from the especially damaging high-altitude sun we have here in Colorado. The hat provided full coverage — including ears and neck — without Jim feeling overheated. Or greasy from sun screen.

Plus, the hat looks pretty dandy on my hubby. Which means Jim is more likely to wear it for protection from sun damage for upcoming fall chores as well those to follow come spring. Considering the quality of the Wallaroo hat, I’m pretty sure that’ll be the case for several seasons to come.

The Wallaroo Hat Company is based in Boulder, Colorado, so they get the need for protection from high-altitude sun … and sun in general. They also understand the need for responsible business practice. The Wallaroo Hat Company is a certified B Corporation, which means it balances purpose and profit and is required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Each year, the company donates one percent of its profits to skin cancer research, education, and prevention in the United States.

The Outback Men’s Sun Protection Hat from Wallaroo — which would be perfectly dandy for women, too — has an MSRP of $50 but is, as of the writing of this review, on sale for $37.50 on the Wallaroo Hat Company website. The site also features several other styles for men, plus numerous options for women and kids.

Disclosure: I received this hat free for review; all opinions are my own.
