A 'Disquiet Time' gem

I am a sucker for a good quote, as this post and this post attest. I recently checked out from the library Disquiet Time: Rants and Reflections on the Good Book by the Skeptical, the Faithful, and a few Scoundrels, edited by Jennifer Grant and Cathleen Falsani, and while reading Tracey Bianchi's touching (and truth-filled) essay "One Disgusting Mess," the following passage jumped right off the page and into my heart:

This is what people do. We cry. Sometimes life affords us the luxury to giggle until we pee, but mostly we just try to survive the day.

~ Tracey Bianchi, "One Disgusting Mess," Quiet Time

I'm unsure why that statement struck me so, but it did. As did numerous others in the book so far (I'm about halfway through).

Now, as an avid active reader, I like to mark up the pages of books (fiction and non) at spots that move me, make me think, make me marvel at a novel thought or magical turn of phrase crafted by the author. Disquiet Time (affiliate link) overflows with quotes I want to remember — as well as umpteen essays that perfectly, poignantly exemplify how to write on faith with irreverence while keeping one's integrity and biblical truth intact — that I wish I had purchased the book rather than borrow from the library.

Come to think of it, I think I'll do just that: buy myself a hardcover copy so I can savor the soul-stirring rants and reflections all over again, this time underlining and asterisking from beginning to end.

After I gobble up what remains of the borrowed copy I must return, that is, scribbling down a few of the many sentiments I've marked with scraps of paper to hold me over until my own coveted copy arrives.
